The Big Read Photo Competition

As the coastal communities of southeast Georgia come together to read Dashiell Hammett’s hard-boiled detective thriller, we want you to become a private eye, grab your camera or camera phone, and snap some images that you think capture the characters, the essence, the mood or the themes of the novel.

Submit weekly on Golden Isles Arts and Humanities Association’s Facebook page and receive the most “likes” to win best photo of the week!

And at the end of four weeks, a $75.00 prize will be awarded to the top photo from all the submissions!

So get reading and get snapping!

GUIDELINES
1. An individual may enter one photo per week relating to the novel The Maltese Falcon by posting it to the Golden Isles Arts and Humanities Facebook page during the following weeks:
     -    February 3 through noon on February 10
     -    After noon on February 10 through noon February 17
     -    After noon February 17 through noon February 24
     -    After noon on February 24 - Through noon on March 2
Photos posted after 12 noon on a Friday will be included in the following week’s grouping.

2. You must include a brief description that states how your photo is connected to the novel: characters, phrases, theme, style, plot, chapter title, etc.  Be creative with your images and your connections.

3. Encourage your friends to “like” your entry.  “Likes” will be tallied from the time the photo is posted until 12 noon on the Friday ending each week period. (e.g., I post my photo on Monday February 6.  People can click “like” on it until 12 noon on February 10.)

4. Each week, GIAHA will group the previous week’s photos into an album (to facilitate the final judging).

5. Weekly winners will be announced every Friday afternoon on GIAHA’s Facebook page. The weekly winner will be determined by the number of “likes” the photo has received.  Individuals are permitted to “like” more than one photo in the weekly competition.

6. An independent judge will determine the overall winner after viewing all of the submissions. Overall winner will receive a $75 cash prize.  The overall winner will be announced after the end of The Big Read, March 10.

7. All notifications and communication will be through Facebook. (Overall winner must provide mailing address or come by the Ritz Theatre, Downtown Brunswick, GA to receive their prize.)

RULES
1. Only one photo may be entered each week.  If you enter more than one, we reserve the right to remove all of your photos from the competition.

2. You must be the photographer.  You cannot post someone else’s work.

3. You must include a brief description of how your photo is connected to the novel. If there is no description, GIAHA reserves the right to remove your photo from the competition.

4. Photoshop and other photo editing programs are not allowed.

5. Please follow Facebook policies regarding the appropriateness of posted photography. GIAHA reserves the right to remove any photo that is deemed inappropriate for any reason.
