GOLDEN ISLES ARTS AND HUMANITIES ASSOCIATION
ARTS IN EDUCATION PROGRAM FOR GLYNN COUNTY SCHOOLS
Golden Isles Arts and Humanities Association (GIAHA) has sponsored and coordinated Arts-in-Education programming in all ten elementary schools and all four middle schools in Glynn County by bringing in professional performing, literary and visual artists since 1997. We have annually provided classes, workshops and performances for students and teachers during the school year. We have been able to provide this opportunity by matching funds from the Board of Education. Due to budget
cuts, the BOE is eliminating this funding for the 2010-2011 school year.
With the support of the Georgia Council for the Arts, GIAHA will continue to offer in-school programming; however, due to the limited funds, there will be some new guidelines to the program.
- Requests for Arts-in-Education programs should be tied to specific curriculum related requests by elementary and middle schools which include workshops with visiting artists, live performances, and special touring exhibits or tied to specific community projects like The Big Read, a community-wide reading initiative, or a community project coordinated by another organization.
- GIAHA will continue to offer assistance in selecting and contacting artists or performances for your school.
- Programming requests should serve as many students as possible.
- Arts-in-Education program requests must be submitted through a simple application (see link below). Arts-in-Education program requests will be awarded as far as funding will allow.
GIAHA will continue to serve students in our community with the following programs:
- Recognize deserving K-12 students with annual Excellence in the Arts and Humanities Awards
- Implement the Eugenia Price/Joyce Blackburn Foundation Young Playwright's Award for all public and private middle grade students in the county and the Young Poet's Award open to all public and private high school students
- Offer discounted tickets to students to attend unique productions in the annual Performing Arts Series at the Ritz Theatre
- Incorporate students and their art work into exhibits, festivals, and special events.

Why is arts education
valuable?
Arts education is not just about teaching someone to draw a picture or play
an instrument. Arts education is about…
